WEST OF SCOTLAND BOYS MATCHPLAY CHAMPIONSHIP - Aran Sinclair beats Colin Edgar on final green

2014 WOS Boys Matchplay Champion
Aran Sinclair
Aran Sinclair (Bearsden) is the 2014 West Of Scotland Boys Matchplay champion, following a final hole victory over Colin Edgar (Cochrane Castle) in the final at Kilbinrie Place Golf Club on the afternoon of Wednesday 9th July.

Sinclair Booked his place in the final with a 3 & 2 win in his semi final match with Conor Toal (Old Ranfurly) on Wednesday morning whilst Edgar, who was bidding for a West Championship double having won the strokeplay title on Monday, beat Jamie Sinnamon (Greenock Whinhill) by two holes to reach the final.

Aran Sinclair had the best of the opening holes, forging a four hole lead after five as Edgar recorded bogeys at the first, third and fifth, and a double bogey at the fourth against Sinclair's regulation par figures over the same stretch.

Edgar halted the momentum being built by Sinclair when he won the seventh hole with a birdie three to reduce the deficit to three, but a further bogey at the short eighth hole saw Sinclair's lead restored to four holes.

The margin of Sinclair's lead remained at four holes as the players turned for home, with Sinclair's run of nine successive pars being rewarded to the full.

Again Edgar hit back at the tenth with a winning birdie three but a ball out of bounds at the next hole by the Renfrewshire boys team member saw him give back the initiative to Sinclair once again.

Sinclair looked to be cruising to victory but Edgar had other ideas, taking three of the next four holes with par figures to reduce the deficit to one behind with two remaining.

At the long seventeenth, a par five was enough for Edgar to take the hole and square the match for the first time since the opening tee shots.

The players moved to the short 139 yard par three eighteenth hole with everything to play for.

Edgar pulled his tee shot left of the green whilst Sinclair's ball came to rest just off the right fringe of the green.

A chip n by Edgar ran ten to fifteen feet past and as Sinclair duly holed out in two more for a par three, Edgar was left with a 10 - 15 foot putt to half the match and take the final into extra holes.

Despite his best efforts, Edgar's ball remained above ground ant Aran Sinclair too the 2014 West Of Scotland Boys Matchplay title with a one hole victory.

At the conclusion of play, Ayrshire Golf Association Vice President James McMurdo presented vouchers to both finalists before presenting the matchplay trophy to Aran Sinclair and the strokeplay trophy to Colin Edgar.
